Camera shots/angles quiz
For this quiz, we were instructed to make a story in exactly 15 pictures. The pictures were required to use certain shots and angles that were listed by the teacher.
I wanted to make my story very straight forward and as clear as possible, since we could only use a limited amount of pictures. My partner and I created a story where a group of school supplies take a boat ride inside the Everglades. They encounter a wild alligator (stapler) and try to escape to avoid being eaten.
The genre of this story is horror. That being said, I wanted to capture the expressions of the characters faces. I made two faces for each character, a happy one, and a scared one. Facial expressions were very necessary to understand how the school supplies reacted to the dangerous stapler. There is also a sense of romantic tragedy with the pen and the pencil. As the pencil gets eaten by the alligator, the pen looks devastated as his lover is dying. There is a two-shot of them being seen together, although I wish I would have shown their relationship in a deeper connection so the pencil's death seemed more tragic. There is an over the shoulder shot as the pencil is getting eaten to show that the stapler has more power over the weak pencil. One of my favorite shots is the extreme close-up on the stapler's teeth. This was done to show how threatening and vicious it was to the supplies. The very last picture shows a high angled establishing shot, which illustrates the alligator eating the pencil, and the eraser and highlighter swimming away. However, the small detail in that photo is that the pen, who is the furthest from the land, is still looking at the pencil in complete shock, as he had just lost the love of his life. I could have done a better job in emphasizing the pen's sadness by adding a close-up shot of his reaction to the pencil's death. Overall, it is a simple but eventful story and my partner and I did a good job in executing the shots.
